How to Pack for a Weekend Camping Trip : How to Select Shelter Equipment for Camping

Hi, this is John Stewart, and this is how
to select and pack your shelter equipment for a weekend camping trip. What I mean by
shelter equipment is what you’re going to stay in. Are you going to take a tent, a hammock,
or are you going to build your own shelter out there. The easiest thing to do is to take
either a hammock, or a tent. When you pack your tent, instead of taking and rolling it
to where it’s a long cylinder, most of the times you’re going to take and compress your
tent down. You don’t want to roll it, just stuff it into a stuff sack, compress it down
to where it takes up less volume than it did before, ok? With your tent, you always want
to put it right on the top of your pack. This is the first thing you’re going to’ take out
every night, because you’re going to set your tent up so that you can put everything else
inside of it. So it’s going to go on the very top inside of your pack. If you choose to
take a hammock, it goes in the very same place. It’s normally going to be a lot smaller than
your tent, so it takes up a little less room, but always put it on the top. You also want
to take materials, just in case you do have to build a shelter, even if you don’t plan
on it. But always put whatever shelter equipment you’re going to take right on the very top
of your pack. And this is how to select and pack your shelter equipment for a weekend
camping trip.
