Ice Fishing for LAKE TROUT on Fort Peck – Crazy Good Fishing #laketrout

(INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>I’VE NEVER SEEN SO MUCH SNOW OUT HERE. WE’RE BACK OUT ON FORT PECK. A LOT OF TIMES, YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE THE BEST FISH REPORTS, YOU MAY NOT HAVE THE BEST INTEL COMING OUT HERE BECAUSE THERE’S JUST NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE OUT HERE FISHING, BUT IT’S WORTH THE ADVENTURE TO GET OUT TO THIS PLACE BECAUSE EVERYTHING GROWS BIG OUT HERE. I JOKE THAT IT’S LIKE JURASSIC PARK, ALL THE FISH ARE OLD. THAT’S WHAT I LOVE ABOUT FISHING FORT PECK. WOW. WOW. LOOK AT THAT! UNBELIEVABLE. ALL MUSCLE. BEAUTIFUL FISH. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>SO WE’RE OUT HERE TODAY ON FORT PECK IN EASTERN MONTANA AND WE ARE TARGETING LAKE TROUT AND WE ARE ACTUALLY OFF A BIG SPINE THAT COMES OFF HERE, SO THIS IS A MAJOR PIECE OF STRUCTURE THAT COMES OUT QUITE A WAYS, DROPS OFF SOME SECONDARY POINTS. THESE FISH IN THE AFTERNOONS WILL START COMING OUT OF THE DEEPER WATER AS THEY STAGE TO GET UP IN HERE, REAL SHALLOW AT NIGHT. SO WE’RE AT ABOUT 50 FEET HERE AND IT COMES OUT TO SOME FOUR FOOT HUMPS BEHIND US. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>YOU REMEMBER, THESE FISH ARE A PREDATOR. YOU GOTTA KEEP THAT LURE MOVING AND IT IS THE ULTIMATE GAME OF CAT AND MOUSE AND THOSE FISH, THEY JUST KEEP COMING IN AND OUT, AND SOONER OR LATER THEY GET MAD ENOUGH WHERE THEY JUST WANT TO GUN IT DOWN. THERE HE IS. OH YEAH, GOOD FISH, GOOD FISH HERE, MIKE. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>THAT FISH DOESN’T EVEN KNOW IT’S HOOKED YET. THERE SHE COMES. SHE’S ONE OF MY FAVORITE FISH. THERE SHE COMES, THERE SHE COMES, WHOA. I DO NOT LIKE THE BOTTOM OF THAT ICE. BUBBLES ARE STARTING TO COME UP, HERE SHE COMES. OH YEAH, LOOKY THERE THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO START. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>LOOK AT THAT, THAT IS A GREAT LAKE TROUT. ALL MUSCLE. BEAUTIFUL FISH, JUST CHOKED, THAT LEECH FLUTTER SPOON. WOW. HERE. ACTUALLY, THAT’S A SUPER LEECH FLUTTER SPOON. THAT IS A CHUNK OF A LAKE TROUT. THERE. HO. JUST ON THE HANDS, YOU KNOW, THESE FISH, THEY JUST GET SO BIG OUT HERE. THE WALLEYES GET BIG, THE PIKE GET. WE’RE FISHING FOR LAKE TROUT TODAY BUT, YOU KNOW, IT REALLY IS, AS FAR AS CONTINENTAL FEES WHERE YOU DON’T HAVE TO GO UP TO CANADA, I WOULD SAY FORT PECK IS SOME OF THE BEST LAKE TROUT FISHING YOU’RE GOING TO FIND HERE IN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES IN TERMS OF NUMBERS OF GOOD QUALITY FISH. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>HERE AT FORT PECK, JUST A GIANT RESERVOIR, ALMOST A QUARTER MILLION ACRES, 1500 MILES OF SHORELINE, 135 MILES ALONG THE RESERVOIR PROPER, 250 FEET DEEP, THE SHORELINE, THE STRUCTURE, THE POINTS AND SECONDARY POINTS AND BAYS AND CREEK ARMS, I MEAN, YOU DON’T FIND TOO MANY LAKES LIKE THIS THAT HAVE SO MUCH DIFFERENT STRUCTURE FOR SO MANY DIFFERENT SPECIES OF FISH.>>WE’VE GOT HOLES DRILLED IN THE GRID FOLLOWING THIS DEEP BREAK HERE AND WE’RE JUST KINDA BOUNCING AROUND FROM HOLE TO HOLE AND TRYING A FEW DIFFERENT LURES, YOU KNOW, TYPICALLY YOU’RE GOING TO TRY WHITE TUBE JIG IS ALWAYS A CLASSIC. I’VE GOT A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT FLUTTER SPOONS I’VE BEEN WORKING HERE, JUST EXPERIMENTING, JUST TO SEE IF THERE’S A PARTICULAR COLOR THESE FISH WANT. WE’RE TRYING DIFFERENT THINGS ALL THE TIME, BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY, A LOT OF IT IS JUST THE FISH MEETING YOU HALFWAY IN THE SENSE THAT, YOU KNOW, YOU JUST GET THAT, SOMEWHAT LIKE A LIGHT SWITCH GETTING TURNED ON. WHEN THESE FISH DECIDE TO EAT IT PROBABLY DOESN’T MATTER WHAT YOU’RE USING. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>OH, THERE HE IS. GOOD FISH. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>THERE’S NOTHING LIKE THE HEAD SHAKES AND THE RUNS OF LAKE TROUT. YOU KNOW, THIS FEELS LIKE A PRETTY DECENT FISH, TOO. YOU KNOW, THERE’S JUST A NICE, AVERAGE, RESPECTABLE SIZE OUT HERE, ON FORT PECK. YOU DON’T TELL THESE FISH WHAT TO DO. JUST GOTTA WEAR THEM OUT. WELL, LOOK AT THESE BUBBLES COMING UP, HERE SHE COMES. HERE SHE COMES. BOY, LOOK AT THIS. LOOK AT THAT. GREAT FISH. WOW. BEAUTIFUL LAKE TROUT, SPOON OUT, YOU KNOW ON THAT SUPER LEECH, SO THAT LEECH FLUTTER SPOON JUST HAVE BEEN A GREAT, WELL IT’S BEEN A GREAT TROUT, IT’S BEEN A GREAT WALLEYE, LURE’S CAUGHT A LOT OF FISH, BUT THAT THERE’S JUST GOT A LITTLE BIT HEAVIER DUTY SPLIT RINGS, BEEFIER HOOK, AND A SMALL BLADE, LITTLE BIT HEAVIER SPOON, FISH IS A LITTLE BIT BETTER CURVED, BUT THAT IS JUST A TROUT KILLER. WOW. BEAUTIFUL FISH. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>CLASSIC LAKE TROUT FISHING IS, LOOK, NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO WHEN IT COMES TO LAKE TROUT, THERE’S A SAYING, YOU WANT TO FISH. FISH LOCATIONS WHERE YOU HAVE A ROOM WITH A VIEW IN THE SENSE THAT YOU HAVE THESE SHARP BREAKS, THESE LEDGES, THESE STAIR STEPS, THAT LOOK OUT OVER DEEP WATER AND RIGHT ALONG THE EDGE OF THAT STRUCTURE, THAT’S WHERE YOU’RE GOING TO FIND THESE FISH AND THEY’RE JUST CRUISING. YOU’RE JUST GETTING IN THEIR ZONE, SO IT’S NOT SPOT ON THE SPOT FISHING USUALLY, YOU’RE JUST GETTING IN THEIR ZONE AND THEY’RE JUST COMING THROUGH IN WOLF PACKS AND, LOT OF TIMES, YOU’LL MARK A FEW FISH AT A TIME, YOUR ACTIVITIES GONNA COME IN SPURTS OR SHORT FEEDING WINDOWS, BUT, JUST CLASSIC LAKE TROUT FISHING HERE ON THIS RESERVOIR. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>THERE HE IS, THERE HE IS. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>LOOK AT THAT! LOOK AT THAT! THESE FISH ARE SO STRONG. LOOK AT THAT, JUST A GORGEOUS LAKE TROUT. HERE. LOOK AT THAT. LOOK AT THAT. JUST, WOW. THEY ARE SO MUSCULAR, I MEAN, JUST, WOW, THAT IS JUST COOL. I JUST LOVE THAT.>>SO ONE OF THE THINGS THAT FORT PECK IS DEFINITELY KNOWN FOR IS THE LAKE TROUT FISHING. THERE’S NO DOUBT THAT, YOU KNOW, THEY DO WELL OUT HERE. THE CISCO BASE, THE FORAGE BASE OUT HERE, IS SECOND TO NONE, AND A LOT OF FOLKS OVERLOOK THE LAKE TROUT OUT HERE ALL YEAR LONG, CERTAINLY DURING ICE FISHING, IT’S PROBABLY THE FISH THAT YOU CAN COUNT ON COMING OUT AND CATCHING. THEY ROAM THE POINTS, THE ROCK POINTS, YOU DON’T HAVE TO GO TOO FAR TO FIND THEM. THERE ARE LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF THEM OUT HERE. THEY DON’T DO ANY STOCKING, IT’S ALL NATURAL REPRODUCTION. THEY’VE GOT THE FORAGE BASE THAT THEY NEED TO GROW BIG AND STRONG AND OLD OUT HERE. 30 INCH LAKE TROUT IN FORT PECK IS A 25 TO 30 YEAR OLD FISH, SO THESE EIGHT TO TEN POUND FISH THAT WE’RE CATCHING HAVE BEEN SWIMMING AROUND HERE FOR A LONG TIME, ENJOYING LIFE UNTIL THEY BUMP INTO US, SO IT’S A GREAT FISHERY, IT REALLY IS. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>YOU’RE BACK TO THIS RESERVOIR BEFORE IT WAS FLOODED, YOU KNOW, JUST THIS BIG, MASSIVE RIVER BOTTOM, ROCK POINTS, JUST SHARP BREAKS, THERE’S SPOTS WHERE YOU MIGHT HAVE A 20 FOOT SHELF, IT’LL DROP DOWN INTO 70 FEET OR MORE WATER. THERE’S A GENERAL SUM, IF YOU GO BACK INTO THE MAJOR BAYS AND TRIBUTARY ARMS, YOU’RE GOING TO FIND ALL KINDS OF PIKE, AND IF YOU COME OUT TO THE MOUTHS OF THOSE BAYS YOU’RE GONNA FIND A WALLEYE, AND IF YOU FIND ANY OF THAT SHARP BREAKING STRUCTURE THAT’S CLOSE TO THAT OLD RIVER CHANNEL, YOU’RE GONNA FIND LAKE TROUT. YOU KNOW, IT’S THE ULTIMATE MULTI-SPECIES TRIFECTA IN THE SENSE THAT, I’VE BEEN AT LOCATIONS BEFORE WHERE I’VE CAUGHT BIG WALLEYES, BIG PIKE AND LAKE TROUT, ALL WITHIN 50 YARDS OF EACH OTHER, YOU KNOW, AND SO IT REALLY IS A TREMENDOUS MULTI-SPECIES DESTINATION WHERE YOU CAN JUST CATCH BIG FISH. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>YOU KNOW, THERE’S A LOT OF DIFFERENT LURES THAT YOU CAN USE TO CATCH LAKE TROUT ACROSS NORTH AMERICA. I DON’T KNOW IF THERE’S ANYTHING THAT’S CAUGHT MORE LAKE TROUT THAN JUST A PLASTIC WHITE TUBE JIG, AND THAT’S MORPHED INTO PADDLE TAILS AND THIS IS JUST A JERK MILL JUST A SMELT PROFILE, JUST USING IT AS A CLASSIC BULLET HEAD DEPENDING ON THE DEPTH OF THE WATER, BUT YOU JUST NEED JUST A STOUT HOOK ON IT. WHITE TUBES, JERK MINNOWS, I MEAN, THEY ALL CATCH FISH AND SO, A LOT OF TIMES WE’RE EXPERIMENTING WITH DIFFERENT WEIGHTS, DIFFERENT COLORS, DIFFERENT PROFILES, TO SEE WHAT THOSE FISH WANT. IF THE FISH AREN’T GOING ON THE SOFT PLASTICS, YOU KNOW, SPOONS CATCH A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF FISH AND I JUST GOT A VARIETY OF SPOONS HERE. CLASSIC LITTLE CLEOS, THIS IS A NEW PEG SPOON FROM CLAM PRO TACKLE, JUST A FLUTTER SPOON. IF YOU DON’T HAVE A LOT OF CURRENT FLUTTER SPOONS TO WORK INCREDIBLY WELL, THIS HERE IS A SUPER LEECH FLUTTER SPOON WHICH WE’VE BEEN CATCHING A LOT OF FISH ON FORT PECK AND YOU JUST SEE, IT’S A LITTLE BIT HEAVIER FLUTTER SPOON. YOU CAN SOMETIMES TIP THESE WITH A MINNOW. A LOT OF TIMES YOU DON’T HAVE TO TIP THEM, BUT THAT RIGHT THERE IS A TROUT KILLER ON FORT PECK.>>TWO FISH THERE. JUST A BIT MORE. GET IT. KEEPS GOING RIGHT BY IT. GOT IT! (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>SO WE JUST GOT OUT HERE OFF OF THIS POINT AND IT’S A SPOT WE HAVEN’T FISHED YET IN THE LAST COUPLE DAYS. THIS FISH CAME IN, I MISSED HIM, AND THEN HE CAME BACK AND I THINK THERE WAS ACTUALLY TWO OF THEM FIGHTING OVER IT. I THINK HE’S STARTING TO REALIZE HE’S HOOKED HERE BECAUSE HE WAS SWIMMING UP TO HIT THE BAIT AND NOW HE’S, YEAH, NOW HE’S REALIZING THAT THERE’S SOMETHING STUCK IN HIS MOUTH, I THINK.>>YOU KNOW, A LOT OF TIMES YOU’LL JUST FIND THESE REALLY INTENSE FEEDING WINDOWS WHERE THESE LAKE TROUT SEEM TO JUST TRAVEL IN PACKS AND THEY’RE JUST PUSHING THESE, THESE BAITFISH ARE PUSHING THOSE CISCOS UP AGAINST THOSE SHARP BREAKS AND YOU’RE JUST TRYING TO DISORIENTATE THOSE FISH, BUT WHEN THEY COME THROUGH, YOU KNOW, NOT ONLY CAN THEY RAISE UP 20 FEET, THEY CAN SHOOT DOWN 20 FEET. IF THEY SEE YOU AND THEY WANT TO EAT IT, THEY’RE GONNA DESTROY THAT LURE.>>THE BRAIDED LINE, ANY TIME YOU’RE FISHING OVER 50 FEET, IS IMPORTANT, AND I’LL TELL YOU, THIS FROST BRAID THAT I’VE BEEN USING IT OUT HERE IN 0 DEGREE WEATHER FISHING OUTSIDE, IT JUST DOESN’T ICE UP. I’M BASICALLY GIVING IT EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO LET ME DOWN BUT IT JUST HASN’T, AND WHEN YOU’RE FISHING BRAID OUTSIDE, YOU CAN SEE MY GUIDES AREN’T HARDLY ICED UP AT ALL AND THE LINE DOES NOT ICE UP BETWEEN THE TIP OF THE ROD AND THE HOLE.>>I’LL GIVE YOU A HAND HERE.>>THAT’S A TRANSDUCER IN THERE. I HAVEN’T SEEN ‘EM COMIN’ UP BLOWING BUBBLES OR ANYTHING. THAT LEECH FLUTTER SPOON, MAN, IT JUST- >>THAT’S WHAT YOU PUT ON, HUH?>>OH MAN, EVERY TIME. WHEN YOU KEEP IT ABOVE THEIR HEAD, IT’S LIKE, EVENTUALLY THEY JUST CAN’T RESIST IT. THERE’S MY LEADER, I JUST SAW HIM. THERE HE IS. YEAH, HE’S A GOOD FISH, HE’S A NICE FISH.>>OH YEAH, HE’S A REALLY NICE FISH. LOOKY THERE, BUBBLES ARE COMING UP.>>YEP, HE’S HOOKED PRETTY GOOD. START HIM UP THE HOLE.>>LOOKY HERE, MIKE.>>NICE FISH.>>FILLS UP THAT 10 INCH HOLE.>>AND HE’S HOOKED RIGHT IN THE HARD PART OF THE JAW THERE.>>LOOK AT THAT, RIGHT IN THE BOTTOM OF THE BEAK.>>ABSOLUTELY. GOTTA LOVE IT.>>WE’LL GET THAT FISH UNHOOKED HERE FOR YOU. YOU CAN HOLD OFF YOUR PRIZE HERE.>>JUST SEEMS TO BE A WHOLE LOT OF FISH IN THIS AGE CLASS SWIMMING AROUND OUT HERE AND, YOU KNOW, WE GOT THOSE BIGGER ONES EARLIER IN THE WEEK SO WE KNOW THAT THEY’RE HANGING AROUND OUT HERE FOR A REASON. LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING LAID INTO HIM AT A YOUNGER AGE, HE’S GOT HIS, HE’S KIND OF A LEAN ONE.>>YEAH, YOU WANNA- >>YEAH, YEAH.>>HOLD HER UP THERE?>>YUP. LONG AND LEAN, JUST A BEAUTIFUL, HEALTHY FISH. HE WAS HUNGRY. HE NEEDED A MEAL RIGHT THERE. GO AHEAD AND GET THIS GUY BACK. NICE, HEALTHY FISH.>>THE LAKE TROUT FISHERY OUT HERE IS DEFINITELY UNTOUCHED. THE NUMBERS OF FISH, WE’RE SUCH AN OUT OF THE WAY PLACE OUT HERE, IT’S NOT THAT IT’S TOUGH TO GET TO, IT’S JUST A LONG WAYS FROM PLACES, SO, THERE’S A LOT OF FISH YEAR ROUND, YOU CAN COME OUT HERE AND FIND THEM AND BE SUCCESSFUL ON THEM. NICE, THAT’S THE WAY WE LIKE TO DO IT, EH?>>GREAT FISH, GREAT JOB, MIKE.>>HE’S NOT COMING UP OFF THE BOTTOM. GOT HIM. LAKE TROUT OUT HERE, THEY MOVE A LOT, SO THEY’RE USED TO CHASING DOWN SCHOOLS OF BAIT, SO I THINK, NATURAL COLORS AND AGGRESSIVE JIGGING IS WHAT WE’VE BEEN DOING AND I THINK IS WHAT’S VERY SUCCESSFUL OUT HERE. SAME WITH TROLLING DURING OPEN WATER. ANOTHER GOOD ONE. YUP, HE JUST WANTS TO KEEP GOING TO THE BOTTOM. THE LAKE TROUT THRIVE OUT HERE BECAUSE OF THE CISCO BASE. BASICALLY, WHAT EVERYTHING THRIVES ON OUT HERE IS THE CISCOS, AND THEY DO MANAGE THAT BAITFISH PROGRAM. THEY’VE GOT DEEP STRUCTURE, SHALLOW STRUCTURE, ALL KINDS OF FORAGE OUT HERE, AND THEY’RE LITERALLY UNTOUCHED. I MEAN, IT’S PROBABLY THE FISH THAT GETS THE LEAST ATTENTION OUT HERE, NEXT TO THE WALLEYE AND NORTHERN PIKE, SO THEY CAN GROW OLD AND THEY CAN GROW BIG AND NEVER SEE A HOOK.>>THERE HE IS! I’LL FLIP HER AROUND HERE.>>NICE.>>GET HER BY THE TAIL.>>NICE. NICE WORK THERE.>>ANOTHER NICE FISH, YEAH. HOOKED GOOD, HOOKED RIGHT WHERE YOU WANT HIM.>>THAT’D BE JUST A PERFECT FISH FOR SMOKING, TOO.>>YOU BET. YOU KNOW, THEY’RE SO PLENTIFUL OUT HERE THAT THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH TAKING A COUPLE OF THESE FISH->>YUP, THROW BACK THOSE BIG, OLD FISH, YOU KNOW, SOME OF THOSE FISH MIGHT BE 15, 20 YEARS OLD, BUT THE->>LOOK AT THE COLOR ON THE TOP OF THAT FISH.>>YEAH, THAT’S JUST GORGEOUS. THE METABOLISM ON SOME FISH MIGHT SLOW DOWN IN THE WINTER TIME. NOT WITH LAKE TROUT. THEY’RE PROBABLY ONE OF THE TOP PREDATORS AROUND AND THEY’RE JUST A FASCINATING FISH TO FISH FOR. PLUS, THEY LIVE IN BEAUTIFUL PLACES. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>WE’VE HAD BLUE BIRD SKY AND NOW WE’RE GETTING A LITTLE BIT OF CLOUD COVER. HOW THAT’S GOING TO AFFECT THE BITE IS ANYONE’S GUESS, BUT I’D RATHER HAVE LIGHTLY CHANGING CONDITIONS ANY DAY THAN EITHER STEADY SUNSHINE, HIGH BAROMETER, LAKE TROUT ESPECIALLY. THOSE SUBTLE CHANGES REALLY GET THEM IN THE MOOD TO FEED.>>YOU GOT ONE?>>YEAH, ANOTHER GOOD ONE! THERE’S MY LEADER. SHOULD BE RIGHT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HOLE. WELL, HE WAS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HOLE.>>LOOK AT THAT, HUH?>>IS IT, I MEAN, IT JUST NEVER GETS OLD.>>NO, I JUST LOVE THESE FISH. THAT’S WHY WE DO THIS, RIGHT THERE.>>YUP, YUP, THE BIG, LONG RUN.>>NEVER GETS OLD.>>SOON AS THEY BLOW THOSE BUBBLES AND THEY VENT THAT AIR BLADDER, MAN, THEY JUST ROCKET RIGHT BACK DOWN. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>THESE LEECH FLUTTER SPOONS, MAN, IT’S JUST BURIED BOTH TIMES RIGHT WHERE YOU WANT THEM. WHAT I LOVE ABOUT LAKE TROUT IS THEIR AGGRESSIVE NATURE. I MEAN, WE JIG THEM AGGRESSIVELY. THEY’RE MADE FOR FISHING WITH VEXILARS. YOU KNOW, YOU WATCH THEM COME UP, THEY MISS THE BAIT, THEY DROP BACK DOWN TO IT, YOU COME UP TO THEM, THEY TURN ON A DIME, COME BACK AND SMOKE IT, AND SO MANY TIMES YOU’RE CAUGHT OFF GUARD, YOU’RE HIGH STACKED OR YOU’RE REELING SLACK LINE, AND, WHEN YOU CAN ACTUALLY MAKE THAT SOLID CONNECTION, MAN, THERE’S NOTHING BETTER.>>WHEN IT COMES TO LAKE TROUT FISHING, YOU JUST USE YOUR ROD, YOUR TACKLE, IT HAS TO MATCH WHAT YOU’RE USING FOR A LURE, SO IF YOU’RE USING SMALLER LURES TRYING TO FINESSE THESE FISH, YOU CAN USE YOUR HEAVIER WALLEYE RODS. BUT WHEN YOU’RE USING THESE SPOONS AND TUBE JIGS AND STUFF OVER REALLY DEEP WATER, YOU DEFINITELY WANT TO HAVE A ROD THAT’S GOT A NICE, HEAVY BACKBONE FOR SETTING THE HOOK. A LOT OF TIMES WE’RE SETTING THE HOOK, WE’RE BACKING AWAY FROM THE HOLE. JUST TO GET A BETTER CONNECTION TO THOSE FISH AND TYPICALLY THOSE FISH IN DEEP WATER, YOU CAN’T GO WRONG WITH A BRAIDED LINE, IN MY OPINION. SORT OF JUST SO MUCH EASIER TO USE, IT’S MORE DURABLE, YOU GET A BIGGER HOOKSET. WHEN YOU’RE OVER DEEP WATER, THIS PARTICULAR ROD HERE HAS GOT A BAIT CASTING REEL ON IT. IT’S GOT WHAT IS CALLED A SPIRAL WRAP WHERE BASICALLY WHEN THAT ROD LOADS, YOU JUST HAVE A SMOOTHER TRANSITION TO YOUR REEL. ANOTHER THING THAT HAPPENS, ICE HAS A TENDENCY TO COLLECT IN YOUR BOTTOM TWO GUIDES HERE. YOU DON’T WANT TO GET ANY ICE UP IN YOUR REEL WHEN YOU’RE USING A BAIT CASTER, BUT USING BRAIDED LINE, 14, EVEN 20 POUND TEST BRAID, AND THEN TYPICALLY A FLUOROCARBON LEADER. MAKE SURE THAT YOUR SNAPS, YOUR SWIVEL, EVERYTHING’S HEAVY DUTY, YOUR SPLIT RINGS ARE HEAVY DUTY, USE BIG HOOKS BECAUSE THESE FISH, WITH THE HORSEPOWER THESE FISH HAVE, THEY CAN STRAIGHTEN OUT AND JUST BREAK YOUR TACKLE. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>OH, THERE HE IS! OH, THIS FEELS LIKE A GOOD FISH! (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>GET MY GLOVES OFF HERE. JUST WRESTLING. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>THAT FISH JUST HIT LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN. THERE SHE COMES. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>WOW. ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT THIS PLACE IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. TO CATCH FISH LIKE THIS, UNBELIEVABLE. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)
