Jeju Olle Trail Camping Thru-Hike Part Two: Route 2 to Route 7-1

Hey guys, welcome to Part Two of our month long Olle Trail walk In Part One we started in Jeju City on Route 18 We’ve spent about a week on the trail so far and we’re down here at Seongsan Ilchulbong Today we’re starting on Route 2, we’re heading down the east coast towards Seogwipo So it’s time for us to pack up and start walking We’re about to head off on our first oreum of the day there are loads of these all over Jeju, they’re parasitic volcanoes some of them are not too tough to climb, and some of them are extremely steep and, eh, we’re yet to find out what this one will be like all of them usually have a good view from the top though I’m at the top! I can hear Kim, she says she’s still coming cursing and moaning Thanks for that extra challenge of 3 litres of water in my bag, Del This view better be worth it (Del) It was quite tough, eh? Yeah, that was one of the tough ones Route 2 is completed and I’m so glad because my feet are ab-so-lutely killing me I think I have heat rash all up my legs as well it’s time to just go and get some food and chill out we’ll continue tomorrow We’ve just packed up and we’re ready to head off from our camp spot near the end of Route 2 last night for today we have a choice of two routes actually Route 3 has Route A which goes inland up a couple of oreums but it is nearly 21km long and then 3B goes along the coast and it is less than 15 k’s so…we’re going with the easy route today That was definitely a ‘will we get some food, won’t we get some food for lunch’ moment and this is brilliant. I’m have gukbap, dwaeji gukbap and Del’s having the same but with noodles he’s having dwaeji guksu really yummy ohhh, that is an excellent broth We’ve reached Pyoseon Beach which is the end of Route 3 our original plan had been to camp, but the weather’s gonna be pretty bad tomorrow so we’ve booked ourselves into a pension for two nights so the good news is that we now get to have a shower tonight It’s Sunday, and we’ve not had a shower since last Sunday morning which is a bit disgusting. Don’t smell though! Well, how to not stink on the trail if you’re gonna do as we do Tip number 1, wear merino wool clothing, we wear Icebreaker T-shirts and underwear Number 2, wear good deodorant, we use Mitchum love that stuff Number 3, dry shampoo and wet wipes he doesn’t need dry shampoo, obviously and if you’re not gonna stay at a pension, or a guesthouse, or a hostel or whatever and you’re just camping all the time you can always go to a jjimjilbang, which is a Korean bathhouse, public bathhouse and get washed up there Are we even still on the trail? 아니야 Trail’s back that way, we’re too busy talking (Kim) This way! (Del) Usual story Route 3 done We’re just having a bit of dinner at Pyoseon Beach before we head onto our pension I would highly recommend this burger joint, Wave, because it comes with a free dog on the patio, best dog ever This has been a good day for dogs actually, three puppies and this beautiful sheepdog anyway, we’re gonna munch these burgers down and then we’ve got I dunno, maybe a couple of k’s to walk into the start of Route 4 and our pension’s just near there this is gonna be messy, there’s no two ways about it (Kim) Ahh ughh It’s good (Kim) The old snotty child wipe We’ve arrived at our pension just before sunset the owner’s very nice, very friendly he has a lovely face and there’s a dog outside, it’s like the day of dogs today got really embarrassed though when we had to take our boots off at the front door and put them in the shoe cupboard they are ab-so-lutely reekin BUT, we can wash ourselves now, we can get clean we can catch up on all our laundry and stuff so, we’ll have a wee day off tomorrow and start again the day after tomorrow Cheers! The weather has calmed down a lot, although it’s still pretty windy on the coast here but we’re ready to resume walking and we’re on Route 4 today we’re gonna be stopping a little bit short of the end assuming that the camp spot that we’ve spied on satellite view works out so maybe about 15 k’s today We are waitin on some pizza and it looks delicious this is soooo good Time to hobble off, I’ve got really bad blisters We had about one and a half k’s still to complete on Route 4 and now we’ll start Route 5 This is a Jeju Olle Information Centre so we can fill up our water bottles here instead of having to go and ask nicely at a restaurant We’ve stopped in at the restaurant just next to the mid-stamp point we’ve gone for some bapsang which is marinated pork rice, a whole bunch of sides you wrap it in lettuce leaves it’s good value at 10,000 won per person looks pretty delicious it’s super spicy Another day done we’re now gonna walk a little bit of Route 6 to get to our camp spot for tonight But first, we’re gettin a beer. And we’re sittin down. And we’re drinkin it. This is really cool up that end it looks like a wadi in Oman and down here it looks like a mini version of Takachiho Gorge in Japan I wasn’t expecting to see this at all, it’s really cool (Kim) eyeing up our dinner our daily haenyeo sighting Hello! We’re (school boys singing in Korean) We’re on Route 6 heading into Seogwipo city now we’ve just had a lovely coastal section with lots of lava rocks, and haenyeo swimming amongst them and now we’re heading up our first oreum for a few days so I hope it’s not too tough It is called Jejigi though Can you guess what song I’ve got in my head? Na na na na na na na Del, you gettin Je-Jigi with it? (Del) Sure, why not Na na na na na na na Na na na na na na Je-Jiggy wit it This is actually quite good fun You should get on that one, Del Lunch time after the oreum which didn’t turn out to be too tough, it was really nice up there so what we’ve got here is Kimchi Jjigae and this is mul naengmyeon perfect on a hot day like today whereas, Del’s having a boiling hot spicy stew, what a weirdo eh? We’ve made it Seogwipo, finally it feels like it’s been a really long day but it’s just cos there’s been so many nice things to stop and see and eat, and drink eh, so we’re here at Gudeok Guesthouse This is our favourite place to stay here, this is actually our third time here and we’re gonna be here for two nights because Route 7-1 starts and ends in Seogwipo tomorrow, we’re gonna be doing that Are we going in? (Del) Aye, let’s go The wifey’s waiting to check us in, and we’ve been stood out here, filmin this There we go! That’s a very neat one Oh! And! Check it out. Do you see a bag? No. Easy day. No bag! Just saying that this route feels totally different to any of the routes that we’ve done so far it’s much more tropical here big bushy trees with palms in amongst them orange groves it really feels like a completely different place Looks a bit Jurassic Park over there if you ask me It does This is my first ever stamp (Del) That looks pretty good to me 7-1 done, and that’s us about half way through the Jeju Olle Trail already, how did that happen?! But we’re actually gonna be back at this exact same spot tomorrow morning because this is where Route 7 starts But, you’ll have to wait for Part Three to see that Cause this is the end of Part Two Mmm Hmm Now it’s time to go for a pint in the Jeju Olle building behind us and then we’re gonna finish off in true Seogwipo Jeju Olle style by having some Korean BBQ Nom nom nom nom nom nom nom I wonder if we’ll see another Del-alike Hmmm If you’ve enjoyed this video, don’t forget to give us a Like you can drop us a comment below if you’ve got any questions about the Olle Trail or Jeju itself subscribe to our channel to see all our future Olle videos and of course, all of our other videos as well and don’t forget to ring that bell! otherwise you’ll miss the videos, and you wouldn’t want that, would you?
