Migrants in Tijuana relocated to new shelter facility | DW News

After getting soaked the day before – another
night of heavy rain finally sealed the fate of the Benito Juarez shelter in downtown Tijuana. The 6000-plus migrants from Middle America
housed in the former sports complex did not stand a chance against the downpour. Only the children still manage a gentle smile. The adults are mourning their tents floating
in ankle deep muddy water, their clothes and other belongings drenched, ruined. For many, a total loss. And amid appalling sanitary conditions -Tijuana
city and Mexican federal officials saw no other option but to shut down the shelter… Buses arrive and open their doors – they
promise to bring these people to a “better, safer place”
Volunteers are not hard to find. Within hours nearly a thousand migrants are
willing to make yet another journey. Taking with them the little they deemed worth
saving, they arrive here: El Barretal. A former bus parking facility and concert
venue. About 20 km from downtown Tijuana and – far
away from the border. For some Tijuana migrants this new shelter
seems to bring some improvements: Here the ground is concrete, not mud. That’s better. But most important is to have a roof over
our heads that protects us from the cold. Others see the benefits of the new shelter
but are wary of its location. The real reason for the police to bring us
here is that they don’t want us close to the border. Imagine, now we need to spend 100 pesos to
get to the border for asylum-paperwork. We don’t have the money and it’s going
to take us all day to get there. Now it’s even more difficult for us to get
into the United States. Our dream is to be there. Meanwhile back at the shelter in downtown
Tijuana the line for the buses is even longer now. More migrants seem to be willing to leave
for the new shelter – sooner rather than later. A look inside the old place may reveal the
reason “When I was a little girl”, she sings,
“I knew only the beauty of Honduras. But as time passed by and I grew older I understood,
I should not love this land.” The sad tune strikes a nerve with many on
this day, as they continue to harbor their dreams of a future in a better place

These people's are not America's responsibility . They refuse to acknowledge it's illegal to enter the United States without proper paperwork. Stop trying to force your government responsibilitys on the United States . protest your own government ✌

Now….., Let me give you my SOB Story… I am a country of 350,000,000 people. Most of us live in a house, but not very many of us live in mansions. We have bills, maybe get to eat out once a month, go see the Doctor about 2 times, we wear clothes that we've had for a year or so & swing a movie on TV once a week. Things aren't  gonna change, in the near future, because we have to deal with a bunch of no-goodniks, that call themselves plotiticians. The DEMONRATS & RINOS are the reason for your Porta Potty Mess, that has shitted up your camp. They could have provided you with super showers, chrome sinks, 2-ply toilet tissue & rub downs in the evening, but they always seem to come up short with their ideas & promises. But, you folks are ignorant & don't know that. If I were you, I would run as far & fast as I can, before some disease catches up with you & your situation goes south, like you should. Sad Stories are everywhere I look. We have 50 million PLUS sad stories in America , can you help in any way…?

Ahahaha now that the new Mexican Prez. has taken over, he has ordered THEIR immigration service to deal with them and can deport them whenever they want!

  • Natasha Minor

All those clothes that were donated just left in piles like garbage, several of the migrants complaining the food and water they're given isn't suitable for a dog. The whole journey they've left their trash thrown on the ground. In fact if you see videos of inside the ball field you'll see piles of garbage in front of empty trash barrels because these people respect nothing and no one. Mexico needs to send them back because it's clear they're just economic migrants and want to illegally cross borders, deport them back to their countries arrest the organizers who liked to them and just wanted to use them as political pawns.
America doesn't want you, you are not getting in. Mexico doesn't want you either, why won't they March on their own corrupt government and throw rocks? They're only after benefits, freebies from American taxpayers they don't want to work or they'd be working in Mexico!

  • alan smlth

The farther away from the US. Border the better. Send them Home ,America is not a Free Zone do whatever. Free Wealth for all.Just Take it.That`s what they have been told.

  • tewsplace

Consider what little they brought for themselves and donations of clothing they have received along the way.. This is how you leave a camp?? Guess they think people will keep donating more clothing so why brother saving what little you have.. I'm disgusted..

  • P Russell

If you wanted a roof over your head you should have stayed in your home in your country!! What gets me is their sense of entitlement!! I guess I just don’t understand their culture.

  • Vanezs Wilmer

Why is any one feeding them??? This is like myself and 20 friends going somewhere and running out of money no one would give us 21 people a place to stay AND FOOD AND CLOTHS!!!WE WOULD BE TOLD YOU GOT YOUR SELFS HERE YOUR FOING TO HAVE TO GET YOURSELF BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM CALL YOUR PARENTS OR FRIENDS AND ASK THEM TO COME AND GET YOU OR SEND YOU MONEY TO GET BACK. THIS IS SUCH BULL $HIT!! STOP FEEDING THESE PEOPLE AND TELL THEM THEY DIDN'T WANT ASYLUM OR WORK FROM MEXICO WHEN OFFERED SO THEY BETTER START WALKING HOME PUT ANY PAPER WORK IN TO WHAT EVER COUNTRY AND A PHONE # YOUR ON YOUR OWN NO MORE FOOD NO MORE CLOTHS NO MORE IF NOTHING! WANT TO LIVE LIKE PIGS NO ONE WANTS ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOU STAYING IN THEIR COUNTRYS. STOP THE HAND OUTS!!

  • FIRE ANGEL

This was inevitable…Tijuana warned about rain…when you take a long journey, you count the cost…they were welcomed & pushed onward until Tijuana…then reality happened.

  • carren ward

they were fed lies * organizers planned to probably make a mockery of current Administration, what people don't realize influx of low-skill is into employment sector of the already wage-suppressed, low-income American worker, already undercut in pay & hours in construction; hospitality; and other sectors that are prone to outsourcing to countries such as Mexico.

  • Ray Milligan

from the Caravan: we are not Bad people,we just throw rocks at you and try to hurt you ,Burn your Flag, Cuss you out , and Demand free stuff, So let us in America or we will kill you ! but we a really nice people!

  • raven scott

these people come to NYC do you know how many sanitation tickets we will get twice a day , that is $ 200 per day times 6 days a week. They come here we moving out

  • James Simmons

I sympathize greatly with these poor folk. The American dream is now finished? No. It doesn't have to be. No dream is realized by first breaking the laws of the host nation. That's not a good way to begin a relationship. We Americans respect law and order. Go back home and report to an American embassy or consulate. There begin the process of applying for a work visa. Had you done this in the first place instead of being naive enough to believe criminal smugglers who now have your money and are laughing at you for your stupidity you'd have begun realizing the American dream the proper way. Simply crossing our borders at a point of your choosing makes you a law breaker, not an immigrant.

  • Mary Hernandez

This what Mexico gets for allowing open borders in their own country. The Mexican people have been invading the US for decades now their neighboring countries are invading them.

  • Caustic Wit

Look how they trashed the area. I used to work on a farm when i was a little girl and the Guatemalan men would throw trash everywhere. Its in their nature i guess.

The current migration at our southern border is costing taxpayers a Kings Ransom. Fleeing persecution? or fleeing for freebies? they sure don't stay in Mexico when they reach "safety" or ask for political asylum in Mexico. Why? because Mexico will give them NOTHING. So they make the long journey to our border, our generous Democrats and our tax dollars.

To Democrats programs like (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, DACA) and (Temporary Protective Status, TPS.) are permanent programs. There is nothing "temporary" or "deferred" about these programs to the left. Just debating DACA in congress is costing taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars….. thank the parents.

Just a few examples of the more outrageous costs associated with illegal immigration, we will pass this burden on to our children and grand children as has been passed on to us.

*The cost of educating illegal aliens children is staggering. From K-12 it costs taxpayers $122,000 for EACH illegal alien student. This does not include the billions spent on bilingual education for illegal aliens.

*Taxpayers in numerous states are funding in state college tuition discounts for illegal aliens. Cost to taxpayers over a billion dollars annually.

*30% percent of all Federal Prison inmates are illegal aliens.Does not include local jails and State Prisons. At $21,000 per year expense per inmate in Federal Prison U do the math.

*$3Million Dollars a DAY is spent to incarcerate, process Illegal aliens in the Criminal justice system. I repeat 3 MILLION a DAY.

*$2.2Billion dollars a year is spent on is spent on food assistance programs such as SNAP (food stamps) WIC, & free school lunches.

very interesting news in Denmark today where the Danish government is planning to put unwanted refugee migrants onto an island that is basically Alcatraz.  in 2015 and 2016, hundreds of thousands of refugees were welcomed into pretty much every European nation.  Now, almost every one of these countries are enacting laws which are aimed at isolating and chasing out the refugees, who have not tried at all to integrate into their host countries but have instead insisted on imposing their own failed social conventions and outdated cultures on their hosts.  The Honduran refugees travel to the USA waving the national flag of Honduras, the country they are supposedly trying to escape.  If they were allowed to enter, would they become productive and loyal Americans? Or would they be foreign hostiles who will try to destroy us from within?  Look at the flag they wave to see where their loyalties lie.

  • LilyZeal

Didn't the caravan's "loving" organizers have a contingency plan if something like rain happened? No ticket back to the border for paperwork… ask your caravan leaders. Is it getting harder and harder to find them? Well, I guess you've outlived your political usefulness to them… for now.

  • Vintagecoilylocks

Nature did for us what the officials could not. Woke these people up to the nonsense they got themselves into listening to strangers and not listening to the President of the U.S. Where are those guys caring the banner saying they were going to go against Trump. they need to take the jobs offered in Mexico. How can you really demand a Dream in another country that you are not a citizen. Go home and make your country worth staying. If americans took over Honduras they would be pissed off.

  • Big Sau83

They take the mess to the place they go. Hondurean gov is so happy. Now Honduras without this people gonna be great again😂😂😂

  • wrenth zenth

who's going to clean up the mess they left behind they don't clean up after themselves, the migrants organizers is well organized they need to stop playing games and go home

  • mario termini

Look how yous trashed the camp..nasty and trashed. Now your here and watch what you do here ..not welcome in U.S. sorry

  • sierra stanley

These people are UNGRATEFUL!!! now I know that there are some RESPECTABLE groups that came in the past to Tijuana and decided to live there. But this illegal caravan had shown no gratitude, no respect, had become violent towards Mexican officials (police) and have stolen from its citizens and shop owners (and their revenue) and have put everyone's lives in danger with the problems they caused. and now they are fearing a disease outbreak!!!!!

  • Leilani Ku'uipo

This place looks much better until these illegals tear it up again. Why has no one educated them that they will not be able to enter the USA? American people who are normal don't want them. Mexico is their asylum country. Mexico send them home!

  • Robert Simonton

AIDS hepatitis malaria and other diseases they're bringing with him and as groups of illegal alien immigrants they're giving it to each other.

  • Gary S

People misuse asylum , American laws are two weak , U.S has illegal immigration problem but longs as need for cheap labor, America is going have a blind eye and long as government get $tax form people, others issues won't matter. Y does U.S gives aid to other countries, it owes money to other countries, Debt of $21.6 trillion.

  • Gary S

GDP in Mexico 1170.00 USD Billion by the end of this quarter, Mexico has jobs and wealth. Mexico should help Central America migrants U,S Debt" of $21.6 trillion. U.S is poor.US has committed about $2.6bn in aid to Central America for 2015 through 2018. US aid to Honduras total aid more than $181 million last year. Need population control , learn how to get a long in ur country. 341,200 Hispanic inmates are in U.S prison.Hispanic gangs form the largest group .U.S. detained 1,400 illegal immigrants who were gang members.

  • Himself Lee

They should not be sheltering anybody. People leaving one Latin American country for one reason or another should seek their asylum in a country that speaks their language. They need to quit this incessant breeding and producing children they cannot support. The violence they claim they are fleeing is because they or a family member got involved in gangs for easy money. They want to come to the USA for more easy money and hatching out offspring to become American citizens, that's it clear and simple. If they really wanted asylum, they could have gone to any foreign embassy in their own countries to do so. No they want to go to the land of milk and honey.

  • I Belong to Cats

Clothes can be washed. I can't throw clothes away. I appreciate what I have. I can't understand people throwing away their clothes.

  • Ms Chen

Look at how they left the place. America if you let them in, this is how your country will look like. He wanted a roof over his head to protect him from the cold too :))) Democrats I will not vote for you next time. Sickening.

  • E. M.

Thank you President Trump! This madness had to stop. Whoever lied to them & organized this "caravan" should be arrested. Hopefully, Mexico can arrange for these folk to go home where they belong.
