6 NEWS, WATCHING OUT FOR YOU. JENNIFER: FIRST TONIGHT IN A CRIME ALERT, SOME LOCAL SCOUTS AND THEIR FAMILY SCRAMBLING TONIGHT. WHY? A THIEF STOLE THEIR SCOUT TRAILER PACKED WITH CAMPING GEAR FOR A BIG TRIP THEY ARE GOING ON TOMORROW. THIS IS KOIN 6 NEWS AT 4:00, I’M JENNIFER HOFF. JEFF: AND I’M JEFF GIANOLA, IN FOR DAN TILKIN THIS AFTERNOON. IT HAPPENED OVERNIGHT THE , TRAILER WAS PARKED IN A SCOUT MASTER’S DRIVEWAY NEAR NORTHEAST GARFIELD AND JARRETT. AMY FRAZIER IS LIVE IN NORTHEAST PORTLAND WITH THIS CRIME ALERT. REPORTER: THESE SCOUTS ARE SUPPOSED TO LEAVE FIRST THING IN THE MORNING FOR CRATER LAKE. TAKE A LOOK, THE TRAILER WAS PARKED OVER HERE IN THIS DRIVEWAY. IT EVEN HAD A HITCH LOCK. THIS MORNING THOUGH, IT WAS GONE. HERE IS A LOOK AT THAT STOLEN TRAILER. IT IS BLACK WITH A TROOP 71 LOGO ON THE SIDE. THEY ARE CELEBRATING 100 YEARS. THE TRIP CRATER LAKE IS A JOINT TRIP WITH TROOP 571, WHICH IS A NEW TROOP OF GIRLS. THEY ALL GOT TOGETHER LAST NIGHT AT PIEDMONT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH TO PACK UP AND GET THE TRAILER READY. IT HAS ABOUT $3,000 WORTH OF CAMPING GEAR, LIKE TENTS, COOK STOVES AND LANTERNS. IT WAS THEN PARKED IN A SCOUTMASTERS DRIVEWAY A FEW BLOCKS AWAY AND THEN STOLEN. WE HAVE ALREADY LOW — LOADED SO MANY OF OUR GEAR ON IT. IT FELT AWFUL. NOW FIVE OR SIX HOURS LATER IT’S , INCREDIBLE THE OUTPOURING OF SUPPORT FROM THE COMMUNITY, FROM OTHER SCOUT TROOPS. REPORTER: IN FACT ANOTHER TROOP , HAS OFFERED TO LOAN THEM A TRAILER AND EQUIPMENT FOR THE WEEKENDS. PEOPLE ARE SHARING PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE MISSING TRAILER ALL OVER SOCIAL MEDIA. SCOUT LEADERS SAY THEY’LL EVENTUALLY HAVE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO REPLACE THE TRAILER AND GEAR, BUT FOR RIGHT NOW, THEY’RE DETERMINED TO MAKE TOMORROW’S TRIP HAPPEN. THEY ARE PLANNING TO GO.
