St. Stephen’s Green is an historic parkland
in the center of Dublin. The park has been open to the public since
the act of Parliament in 1877. Prior to this, the area that today hosts the
park had a long and interesting history, including being used as a common grazing area
in the 1600s, and later a place of retreat for Dublin’s
wealthy. Sir Arthur Guinness paid for the refurbishment of the green to its current layout in 1880, and the Green comprises of 22 hectares of
landscaped flowerbeds, beautiful large trees, a lake, fountain and
historic Georgian-style buildings. It is an ideal place to relax and enjoy some tranquility away from the frenetic activity
of central Dublin.
