Top 10 Scary Camping Stories

Hello and welcome back to the Most Amazing
Channel on the internet. I am your host, Rebecca Felgate – links
to my social media are in the description box – and today we are talking about the Top
10 Scary Camping Stories! You guys love scary, so we are bringing them
to you! Although I love camping and after scripting
this list for you, I am a touch anxious about it! Argh! Before we pitch up our tents and settle in
to this video, I just want to ask you guys if you like camping and what your best camping
adventure has been? Also, do hit that thumbs up button if you’re
feeling thumbsy. 10 – Yellowstone Bear Attack
I was always told by my mates in Ontario that I shouldn’t be too afraid of black bears
because they’re not likely to kill you, it’s the grizzlies you need to watch out
for. I don’t know if this is true or not but
in 2010 a Grizzlybear rampaged through a heavily occupied campground in Soda Butte near Yellowstone
National Park in the middle of the night. One man, Kevin Kammer, was killed, and two
other people seriously injured. A woman suffered severe lacerations and crushed
bones from bites on her arms and a man had part of his calf ripped off. Other campers ran into their cars to hide
from the mother bear and her cubs. It seems the bear had wandered into the chained
camp and started slashing at tents. One survivor, Deb Freele said she woke to
feel her arm being bitten by a bear and her tent totally slashed away. She said nobody helped her, and she survived
only by playing dead after a while then grabbing her bear spray, although by this point the
bear and cubs had moved on and eaten another man. The attack was the most vicious and brazen
in Yellowstone since the 1980s. The bear was euthanized. Let this be a warning to anyone who uses a
mini barbeque and brings it in a tent – 9 – Death by Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
In 2013, a 14 year old girl was killed by fumes when her parents placed a bucket barbeque
in the tent they were sharing. The family tried to minimize the fire danger
but had no idea that contained burning coals produce carbon monoxide which, if trapped
in an enclosed space, can kill. The incident took place at a campsite in Bucknell,
Shropshire, UK. Hannah Thomas Jones was the closest to the
bbq and died over night. Her mother, Danielle Jones, suffered carbon
monoxide poisoning and she could not move when she woke up. Sadly, other members of the camping party
found the childs body in the morning and called an ambulance, but it was too late to save
her. 8 – Camping with the Klan
There is a Reddit Thread in the Ask Reddit section all about creepy and unsettling camping
stories. BeerHunter420 said that they were camping
near a river where they’d been fishing and kayaking. They were sitting up their tent with their
friends in a purposefully remote spot, hoping for a quiet escape. Later, round the fire, they spotted a bigger
fire in the distance about 300 yards away. They then said they heard chanting. On a closer look at the fire, the campers
realised the group was burning a cross. The cult members then started yelling about
white power and shooting their guns into the air. Isn’t that terrifying! One…. Christ… the klu klux klan and two….guns. Okay, White Supremacist are terrifying, but
at least you can recognise the idiot when you see one! 7 – The Silence
Another Reddit post here – Biggs180 shared a story about a camping trip in the Florida
Everglades with friends. The group had retired to their tents for the
evening and were beginning to fall asleep when all of a sudden heard a very deep and
low vibration. After that, all nature was silent, including
the bugs and birds who had previously been generating a background hum. The four campers all text each other about
how freaked out they were, careful not to break the eerie silence. Eventually all of the creatures started making
noise again… but all of the campers didn’t sleep a wink. When nature unanimously falls silent, you
know something big is going down. 6 – The Hangmans Tree
The Holcomb Valley Campground in Big Bear California is a lovely place to camp, just
don’t go wandering near Hangman’s Tree. The campground is near a mining ghost town,
and if the ruins of an old settlement weren’t enough to freak you out, nestled deep within
the woods is the Hangman’s Tree, an area that was used to enforce the law or even enact
revenge in the 1800s. The area was huge with the Californian gold
rush and attracted a few unscrupulous characters who were brought to justice there. Many campers who have hiked to the tree have
reported paranormal goings on and strange whisperings around the tree area. Some say that a gold smuggler uttered a curse
as he was hung in the area. I am not sure I’d fancy camping near all
that bad juju. 5 – The Ghosts of the Hawaiian Night Marchers
On the 5th July 1995, Ricky, his girlfriend Jennifer, his friend Richard and Richard’s
son Ryan went camping on Mokuleia Beach on the Hawaiian island of O’ahu. While on the beach at 10pm at night, they
saw distant flashes of light, then a long line of troches on a mountain in the distance. It appears they happened to spot the Night
Marchers, a Hawaiian folk legend that says phantoms of ancient Hawaiian warriors roam
the islands at night. Rumour has it, if you share any blood relation
with the marchers you will be saved, or else, you can pee on yourself for redemption. If you’re on the path of a Night Marcher,
you must strip naked and lay face down where you are. It seems the camping group got lucky – they
lived to tell the tale. 4 – The Lake Bodom Murders
This is one of the most notorious unsolved crimes in Finish History. In 1960, four teenagers were camping by Lake
Bodom in Finland. What happened between the evening and the
morning, when three of the four youths were found brutally murdered, we aren’t quite
sure. A slashed and bloodied collapsed tent was
discovered by a hiker the next morning, and when he went to investigate. Two 15 year old girls and an 18 year old boy
were battered and stabbed to death, with a fourth left stabbed and unconscious. One of the girls, Malia Björklund, had been
stripped naked from the waste down and had received the most stab wounds. Upon discovering the horrifying scene, Hiker,
Risto Siren called the police and an ambulance, and the life of 18 year old Nihls Wilhelm
Gustafsson was saved. Gustafsson, the sole survivor, had a concussion,
facial bruises and fractures. He recalled seeing a vision of a black and
red clothed attacker. I can’t imagine being Siren, the hiker who
found them…..having to see all of that with my own eyes…it would haunt me forever. 3 – Wells Gray Murders
In the summer of 1982, Bob and Jackie Johnson, their two daughters Janet and Karen and Jackie’s
parents, Edith and George Bentley went camping near Wells Gray Park in British Columbia. The family were reported missing a week after
Bob failed to show up to work. Around 6 weeks after they had set off for
their camp trip, their bodies were found in a burned out car on Battle Mountain Road. They had been shot in the head with a .22
caliber weapon. Fast forward over a year later and 24 year
old David Shearing was arrested. He later admitted to stalking the victims
at their campground and later shooting the adults in the head. He kept the two girls alive for a week, raping
the eldest, 13 year old Janet, repeatedly throughout the week before killing them too. 2 – The Dyatlov Pass Incident
Something horrifying happened to nine ski hikers in the Northern Ural Mountains in Soviet
Russia between the evening of February 1st and the morning of February the 2nd, 1959. The group were experienced winter trekkers
who had set up a camp on the slopes. On the morning of the 2nd February, the bodies
of the campers were found in a very disturbing scene. It seems that something in the night caused
the group to tear out of their tents without proper clothing to face the sub zero snowy
climate. Six of the group died of hypothermia, three
died from major fractures. One victim had their head bashed in, two others
had their chests crushed. One woman had her tongue and eyes missing. The soviet authorities investigated the suspicious
deaths but the case remains unsolved. Leading theories include an animal attack,
an avalanche scare, infrasound panic or assassination. Others say it could be paradoxical undressing
from hypothermia, which causes people to act crazily. Others say it could have been a Yeti or even
aliens. The area remained closed for investigation
for three years, but is now open and has been named Dyatlov Pass in memorial of Igor Dyatlov,
the 23 year old leader of the group. Think the rest of this list has been horrible? Well the worst camping horror story comes
from a terror attack in Norway….devastatingly at number one we have the mass murder of 70
youths at Utoya Island in Norway. On the 22nd July 2011, Dressed in a police
uniform, Andres Breivik boarded a ferry to the island of Utoya. This was the location of Norwegian Labour
Party youth camp, a political party Breivik detested. The annual summer camp was attended by around
600 teenagers. Brevik marched around the island, including
the cafeteria, the campsite, the woods and rocky areas by the water killing teenagers
and young adults, many of which were at point blank range. He killed youths hiding in their tents and
many others as they tried to escape. A lot of the survivors managed to hide in
caves around the island. The mass shooting lasted an hour and a half
before police could reach the island. Of the 70 victims, the youngest victim 14,
many of the rest were kids in their late teens and early 20s. A further 110 people were injured. Okay, that was the top 10 scary camping stories! It definitely puts me off camping a bit….but
I don’t know…I’ll just make sure my bear spray and pen knife are close by! I had a scary camping situation in a thunderstorm
in Algonquin park last year… but it is nothing compared to these stories! Have you ever had anything scary happen to
you while camping? Let me know. Just before I bop out of here I just want
to read a couple of comments from my Top 10 Haunted Airport stories. Brianna Dukart wrote: If I were a ghost I’d
haunt my ex.? Swifite Runner 89 said: I would haunt Six
Flags to make it more thrilling? That would be too much for me, I think! I am on this persons wavelength! Aelta E Official said: Personally I would
haunt the music rooms and the auditorium of my high school. I mean why not? You get to mess around with props, instruments
and leftover scripts from different events? I love me a theatrical ghost!

I live in Florida and I was camping with my best friend and her family in Michigan. There was one point when her dad started chasing us around with a kitchen knife laughing and opening the zippered windows of the tent where we would hide.

    Coming to the tree

Once I saw the most terrifying thing ever. In Beaver Medows, Colorado, my brother was out fishing near our site. He claims to have seen a dark figure staring at him in the water. He ended up losing his balance falling into the water sending us to the emergency room 26 miles away to remove a fishhook from his ear.

#9 is the reason why the teepee (yes I'm native American) is constructed the way it is…tapered with a ventilation space at the top you can cover with flaps on either side. That way you can build a campfire inside for warmth and not worry about suffocating from fumes

My dad had told me and my sister when he was little he went camping at this place I don't remember what it's called but he said " when the slavery is starting to end this one man didn't agree to it so he drowned his slaves." They were at the near the spot where the man drowned his slaves and my dad started to hear noises he still doesn't know if it actually was the ghost of the slaves that the man drowned or someone was pranking him.

Word of advice, try not to play dead if you encounter a bear or wolf because to them you're a free meal. It's better to try to act "bigger" or more aggressive because if you're willing to put up a fight, the animal will be less likely to attack. Make loud noises, don't turn your back on it either.

We went to camp at Yellowstone but the camp sight was full so we stayed in a very crowded camp ground. The next day we went to the camp ground that was full and for our own sight there. There were signs EVERYWHERE saying that there was a bear that was heard and spotted on the side of the campground that we were near.
    😬😬😬
My grandpa said he was going to run around the campground roaring like a bear. But he was just kidding. 😂😂😂
My nana told him that he would be shot. 😂😂😂

  • Skitter Sly

And that is why I never go camping without a knife, even on school camp I find a decent stick and take time to make a spear… well I used to anyways, I don’t go on school camps anymore. the Keppel Islands nearly put me off of camping completely… nearly if I wasn’t a stupid ******

  • Supermellow1x

number 6: "Are you, are you coming to the tree? Where dead men called out they say who murdered 3. Strange things did happen here no stranger would it be, if we met at mid. night in the hanging tree"

So the scariest thing that happened was when my dad my sister and I went camping. My sister and I went for a walk my sister got lost I went to get dad. We found her but when we got back the neighbors said there was a bear eating out of our pot. We had hot dogs cooking which the bear stole…

  • Mr. Kenworth

Grizzly bears usually only attack if their cubs are around, or if you spook them. Males will be aggressive during mating season. Black bears are more territorial they will attack if you are in their area. This is even more so if they have cubs.

The one at Yellowstone freaked me out the most. The woman who pretended to be dead is lucky to be alive, when a grizzly goes after you you’re supposed to climb a tree because they’re too large to climb it. When black bears attack (which only really attack when one threaten their young) that’s when you’re supposed to play dead. They only eat what they’ve killed, they’re agile enough to climb trees.

  • Andrea Becerra

I hate that they killed the bear! You are in their natural habitat! If anyone shouldn't be there it is humans 😑 That bear had cubs who will now have to raise themselves

Number 9: the parents must not have payed attention in middle or/and high school when they teach where carbon monoxide comes from and all the possibilities of consinquenses.

Am I the only one who laughed when Rebecca said, "Before we pitch up our tents…?" Hahaha, I know, I'll leave now, but I'm not sorry. Lol

  • Lucky Cat

About the hypothermia camping story where they tore out of their own tents… it gets weirder. There was radiation found to have been exposed on the bodies…. Where did it come from since there were no other radioactive materials found for hundreds of miles??

  • Bredhead Urine

There is another scary camping trip story i know. So there was this troop of girl scouts preparing for a trip when the got a note saying that three of the girls would be murdered. The leaders thought it was a joke and ignored it. Then during the camping trip at night three of the girl were murdered.

  • Justine Ashton

I went camping with my 3 other girl scout friends at camp wind in the pines and i told a scary story that scared my friend

  • Alaska Delerious

So my cousins and some friends and I were camping out on our grandparents' property when it was new and we were all in our tents in the little area down the slope from the house. It was fine for the most part except their property is creepy as is and that night, we heard a bunch of movements in the bushes outside. We weren't /too/ concerned at first, but then my cousin said it sounded like one of the little girls that were staying up in the house. And it DID! We went out to check and her boyfriend flashed around the flashlight and saw some eyes in the trees. TURNS OUT it was just a bunch of bobcats in the trees, but it was super freaky and we all went and slept inside.
Then, when I got home, my own cat made the same noises as the bobcats. I let her sleep in the living room that night.
