Walking The Olle Trail, Jeju Island, South Korea

We’re off to Jeju Island So, that’s us arrived in Jeju and our first stop is here at the Ganse Lounge in Jeju City We’re going to be walking some of Jeju’s Olle Trails for the next week Yeah, we’ve got our passport which we picked up here and we’re gonna hit the trail tomorrow morning in the wind and the rain. Yeah, worst timing! Which one should I get? (Del) hmmmmm. (Kim) Your face says it all! Which one suits me better? (D) Just get that one, come on! We’re just about to start our first day on the Olle Trails We’re leaving our hotel in Jeju City to head to the bus station and it is chucking it down! Yeah, so it’s time to get the waterproofs on It’s sooo wet! We’re on Route 14 of the Olle Trail today, the weather was just getting worse and worse we’re about half way round and decided to call it quits for the day Yeah, we were planning on camping for the night but there’s just no way we’re gonna do it, the wind is howlin and there’s gonna be like a thunderstorm tonight and stuff so we’ve had to get a hotel, but luckily we’ve got this amazing view of the beach and the colour of the water here is just unreal. It’s so so beautiful. So, day 2 and we’ve finally found a stamp spot, yay! So, we’re gonna hike the Olle Trail 12 today in reverse and our plan is to walk all the way to Seogwipo from here so we’re gonna get our first stamp in our passport (K) End of our second day walking on the Olle Trail and our first night camping because the rain has finally stopped (D) After 17 kilometres of hiking the work is still not done (K) That’s us packed and ready to go (K) Day 3 on the Olle Trail Trail 11 in reverse (D) Stamp’s drying There are so many spiders and they’re huge …one minute thirty seconds… Stamp! (K) Morning coffee time (D) Yup Muesli, banana and some black bean milk (K) I didn’t know you could milk black beans Del Yeah, you do it like this Day 4 on the Olle Trail We’re hiking Route 10 today, going in reverse (K) How’s that bag? The bag’s alright (K) Gotten used to that 27.5 kilogram weight? Totally (K) So, Del’s got too wide a load to get through this gate so he has to, eh, improvise Excellent acrobatics, Del Well done So, this was our camp spot last night we wanted to camp on the sand dunes but it was way way way too windy so, instead we camped next to this old, abandoned tractor We’re just about to head off for our fifth day on the Olle Trail It’s a pretty windy day Yeah, we’re gonna finish the Olle Route 10 today and start on the 9 (K) made a new pal Jeju’s famous for its tangerines (K) Oh! That’s the best one yet! 3 year anniversary today celebrating it hiking up a mountain and getting really sweaty (K) We’ve just finished Route 9 and this is our camp for the night just walked past it on the way to the stamp place and thought, Oh! That looks perfect! it’s gonna rain tonight, so we’ve got a covered pavilion and check out this view! pretty niiiiiice! Happy Anniversary (D) Cheers Good morning. It is day 6 on the Olle Trail for us we’re gonna start Route 7, naw, Route 8 today (K) Wow I’m loving this day What an amazing spot (D) Here comes my Melon Pop (K) Yeeeahhh Just put it against my forehead (K) Oh my god, you’re so sweaty (D) Of course I’m sweaty! I cannot believe THIS is the Olle Trail A giant bus just went past Soon the road will end Finally, we are emerging from Jeju resort hell (K) Convenience store lunch again today Rice and seaweed Absolutely drippin we’ve just come up massive hill after massive hill we need to find a campsite but take a look at this This is the most amazing temple I’ve seen in Korea So, we were so in awe of that temple last night that it got dark and we didn’t have anywhere to stay yet so we walked back to just the other side of the car park to this, umm, little bit of grass, just basically in someone’s orange grove so we ended up here, we put up our tent in the dark and we were trying to be really quiet all night cause there’s a house nearby and the dog kept barking his nut off at us we’re up at the crack of dawn today trying to get packed up and moved on before anyone really sees us because we’re definitely on someone’s private land but also, we’re just right next to that temple, so at least we can go and see it in the morning light now as well as last night, it was really beautiful, one of the most amazing temples we’ve seen in Korea actually really different to other ones (🎵 Rick Astley – Never Gonna Give You Up playing on the loudspeakers) (K) Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down… (D) Never gonna turn around and desert you. (D) Love a bit of Rick Astley in the morning Gettin us pumped. Day 7. Route 7. Party in the carpark (D) Pointing us in the right direction (K) On to Seogwipo We’ve just started Route 7 already impressed with the views We just stopped to ask a lady if we could buy some of her tangerines from her tangerine grove and she just shoved a whole bunch of them in our hands for free which was really nice of her, cause we’re starvin (D) Last day (K) Yep. OK, let’s do it! I’ve had a few challenges on this trail with this huge bag that I’m carrying getting past gates and other obstacles with this huge bag I’m carrying right now, we’ve just got some low hanging branches so I’m having to do a bit of a crouch We’re nearly at the end getting there We’re just getting our last stamp of the day and our final stamp of the trip because this is where our Jeju Olle Trail walking adventure ends Yeah, we’ve been hiking for seven days camped for five nights walked over 100 kilometres My feet are killing me Yeah, mine are throbbing pretty hard too and, eh, it’s been five days since we’ve had a shower so, I am itching to get to our hotel and just get scrubbed up And I’ve been thinking about a beer for several hours now Oh yeah, get a nice cold beer as well Well, there we go Final stamp Yep, for now, maybe we’ll come back and do some more one day but that’s us So, tomorrow we’re going scuba diving off the coast of Seogwipo and the day after, we’re gonna hike up Hallasan which is the highest mountain in Korea so we’re looking forward to that, should be some pretty amazing views from the top So if you wanna check out those videos you can subscribe to our YouTube channel so you don’t miss them Yeah, leave a comment if you’ve enjoyed the video and hit the Like button too Yep, and we’ll see you next time, when we’re hopefully looking a little fresher than we are now See ya! See ya. Made it to the Guesthouse hanging out on the rooftop lounge sunset and a beer Better get my beer too Cheers (D) That sh*t sticks quickly I’m ready for a good feed (K) There’s a Del-a-like just come in Nothing like!
